Making a difference - Kelso Community Hub

Making a difference - Kelso Community Hub

30th November 2023

The Kelso Community Hub has provided vital emergency food hampers to families in need and delivered fun and enriching art workshops to more children this year thanks, in part, to Peak ARE's support through our Community Sponsorship Program.

We were privileged to be invited to take a tour of the Hub, located at Kelso State School earlier this year, when Allan personally delivered shopping vouchers to the Hub team which we hoped would support some of their priority programs.

As 2023 draws to a close we thought we'd ask the team if and how we'd helped support the great work they do.

Q&A

Q: What is the essence of what the Kelso Community Hub does?

A: Community Hubs build social cohesion in Australia. They are welcoming places where families from diverse backgrounds, particularly mothers with pre-school children, come to connect, share and learn. At our Kelso Community Hub we have a strong focus on early years programs, engagement, and vocational pathways.

Our programs are based on feedback from our community, we currently run a social group, playgroup, arts and crafts program, and provide many services within the school and throughout our local Upper Ross community.

Q:What support has Peak ARE's Community Sponsorship Program provided you?

A: The support provided by Peak ARE through the Community Sponsorship program enabled us to purchase much needed resources for our Arts and Crafts program. We delivered a cultural art workshop for students in the school, and other workshops with the resources that were purchased. We were also able to provide Emergency food hampers for families who were struggling financially.

Q: What has the support meant to your organisation and community?

A: The support that was provided by Peak ARE gave us the opportunity to provide a very high-quality program, without the support we would not have been able to provide each child with the supplies that were necessary. As a result of the support, our Arts and Crafts program is now welcoming between 25-30 children each week, which is an increase of approx. 15 children. We have welcomed 124 families to the hub this year, so far.

We are so grateful for the kindness, generosity and support from the Peak team. Thank you so much for supporting our hub families, we really appreciate it.

Q: Is there any special event or announcement you would like to share?

A: Our final playgroup for the year will be held on Friday 1st December 2023. Parents/carers with children ages 0-5 years are invited to attend.
